Childhood Shantanurao Laxmanrao Kirloskar was born in Sholapur, 220 miles southeast of Bombay, as the eldest child to Laxmanrao Kirloskar and Radhabai. S.L. Kirloskar passed on April 24, 1994 in a medical clinic in Pune after a stroke. He was 90 years of age.

Rajiv Gandhi, the then State leader of India delivered a dedicatory postage stamp to respect the Kirloskar Gathering’s 100th commemoration, in 1988. In 2003, a remembrance postage stamp was once more delivered by the then State head of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on the birth centennial of Kirloskar.
