Production-Spec Tata Sierra EV is the Common Man’s Land Rover Defender

I have come across some exciting news for SUV enthusiasts in India. Tata Motors unveiled the Sierra SUV concept at the Auto Expo in January this year. The concept quickly became responsible for reigniting the love for the classic Sierra. Fast forward eleven months, and leaked patent images of the upcoming EV have come up online. Basis this, here’s even a speculative rendering that gives us a glimpse of its bold and muscular design.

This realistic rendering from Motorbeam offers a sneak peek into what the production Sierra EV might look like. In fact, I feel that the SUV would have a great aesthetic appeal even if the actual version looks close to the visualization we have here. It even reminds me of the mighty Land Rover Defender. At the front-end, the Tata Sierra EV boasts a futuristic fascia. The connected daytime running LEDs are in sync with the styling of the latest Tata SUVs. The split headlamp design adds to its distinctive appeal.

In the side profile, the Tata Sierra EV has a boxy silhouette. The design, especially around the B and C pillars, is high reminiscent of the Defender. Trapezoidal-shaped wheel arches adorned with thick matte black claddings, coupled with Y-shaped gunmetal grey alloy wheels, contribute to its imposing stance. The flush-type door handles and sleek ORVMs enhance its aerodynamic profile.

Tata Sierra to Launch in EV-Only Format

While interior images aren’t available, the concept shown earlier has a futuristic cabin with many modern bits. These include illuminated Tata logo, flat-bottom steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and touchscreen infotainment screen. My guess is that the Sierra EV will borrow aplenty from the equipment list of the new Safari. Initially, the Sierra will be an electric-only offering. Later, though, it will likely get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The Sierra EV, with its groundbreaking design and anticipated features, is undoubtedly set to make a significant impact in the SUV segment. Stay tuned for more updates as Tata Motors unveils more details about this exciting addition to its lineup.
